 The After School Program
(formerly known as the YES Program)

The ASP offers a safe and supportive environment for TK-9th* grade students. Students in our ASP are able to participate in physical activity, learn about healthy choices, work on homework or academic skills, and enjoy enrichment activities. We offer this free service at all elementary schools, middle schools, and Porterville Military Academy.

Our ASP staff consists of PUSD certificated teachers, classified staff, PUSD Pathways' Interns, and California Teaching Fellows.

Our program is in high demand so some schools might experience a waiting period for enrollment while we recruit, hire, and train staff. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

The student experience:
  1. Students enroll in a class with a trained tutor "Teaching Fellow".
    1. Ratios for TK-K grades are 10:1
    2. Ratios for 1-3 grades are 20:1
    3. Ratios for 4-9 grades are 25:1
  2. Students enjoy a nutritious meal while in our program.
  3. Students engage in an academic focused session which may include homework support, hands-on learning, story time, and/or S.T.E.A.M. activities.
  4. Students participate in physical activity focused on skill development in sports or lifelong fitness skills.
  5. Students partake in enrichment activities that may include art, crafts, music, theater, and/or recreation.
  6. Students complete community service projects, science projects, multicultural appreciation projects and other group projects to develop their collaborative skills.
  7. The PUSD Pathways Department provides activities for TK-6 students to experience some of our very own Pathways Career Themed Academies with High School Pathway teachers and students.
  8. Art, Theater, and Ceramics sessions are offered to students on Wednesdays and Fridays in partnership with Imagine Community Arts.
