Porterville Unified School District is proud to celebrate the accomplishments of our students as they reach important milestones in their educational journey.

From middle school promotions to high school graduations, these events recognize the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of our students, families, and staff. We look forward to celebrating together as a community.

Graduation is a meaningful milestone that celebrates students who have successfully completed their educational journey. Porterville Unified School District proudly honors graduates from our high schools and Porterville Adult School who have met district requirements and earned their diplomas.

🎟️ Ceremony Admission (High Schools Only)

Due to venue capacity, high school graduation ceremonies are ticketed events.

Each high school manages its own ticket distribution and guidelines. Families should contact their student’s school site directly for specific details regarding ticket availability, quantity, and entry procedures.


Middle school promotions recognize students as they complete an important chapter and prepare for the transition to high school. These ceremonies celebrate student growth and achievement.

🅿️ Parking Information


Guests are encouraged to arrive early, as parking areas fill quickly and traffic around the venue may be heavy before and after the ceremony. Please follow the posted signage and staff directions to help ensure a smooth arrival and departure.
 
Some parking areas may require a short walk to the ceremony location, so plan accordingly and use designated pedestrian pathways when available.
 
Accessible parking and a drop-off area are available near the main entrance for guests needing closer access.
Please do not park in red zones, fire lanes, or restricted areas, and help keep emergency access routes clear at all times.
 
Following the ceremony, expect delays when exiting parking areas due to high traffic volume. We appreciate your patience and cooperation in helping ensure a safe and organized event for all.
 

🅿️ Parking Information (Buck Shaffer Auditorium)

We want your graduation experience to be as smooth as possible, starting with getting parked. Spectator parking is available in several locations near the auditorium. A map is attached for reference.
Parking Areas:

  • The two parking lots along Olive Ave.
  • The gym/student parking lot on Howland St. off Olive Ave.
  • The band parking lot off S. Jaye St. on the south side of campus
  • Behind the Community Schools building off W. Vine Ave. (west of campus) — new this year
  • Sierra View Hospital's East Parking Lot off N. Jaye St. — new this year
 

Please note: Sierra View Hospital has generously offered their East lot for overflow parking only. Please do not park in their West main lot, as it needs to remain available for patients and staff.
Please do not park in the lots of surrounding businesses, including Walgreens, Taco Bell, Jack in the Box, and Pizza Hut. These businesses actively tow vehicles during events.

Purpose of Graduation

Graduation ceremonies are held to recognize students who have successfully completed all required coursework, met district standards, and earned a high school diploma. These events celebrate student achievement and mark an important transition to future opportunities.


Student Participation

Participation in graduation ceremonies is based on meeting district expectations, including academic, attendance, and conduct requirements. To take part in the ceremony, students must:

 

  • Complete all graduation requirements
  • Maintain satisfactory attendance
  • Meet school behavior and discipline standards
  • Resolve any outstanding obligations to the school

 

Students who do not meet these expectations may still receive their diplomas, but may not be eligible to participate in the ceremony.


Student Conduct Expectations

Graduation is a formal and meaningful event. Students are expected to:

 

  • Demonstrate respectful and appropriate behavior
  • Follow all school and district rules
  • Comply with directions from staff and event personnel
 

Students are expected to demonstrate respectful and appropriate behavior. Conduct that is disruptive or poses a safety concern may result in removal from the ceremony.


Dress & Attire

Graduates may be expected to wear traditional graduation attire, such as a cap and gown, during the ceremony.

 

In alignment with California Education Code Section 35183.1 and recent state guidance:

 

  • Students are permitted to wear Tribal regalia or recognized cultural or religious adornments during graduation ceremonies and related events
  • No prior approval is required for students to wear these adornments
  • Students and their families determine what constitutes appropriate cultural or religious adornment
  • If a graduation cap is incompatible with the adornment, students are not required to wear a cap
 
Additionally:
 
  • Students in the military may choose to wear their dress uniform
 
Porterville Unified School District is committed to honoring and respecting the diverse cultural traditions of our students and ensuring that graduation ceremonies are inclusive and meaningful for all participants.

Honors & Recognition

Graduation ceremonies will include recognition of academic achievement, including:

 

  • Valedictorian(s)
  • Salutatorian(s)
  • Other school-sponsored honors and awards
 

These recognitions are based on established criteria and multiple measures of academic performance.


Guest Expectations

To ensure a respectful and enjoyable experience for all families:

 

  • Please remain seated during the ceremony unless directed otherwise
  • Avoid excessive noise so each graduate’s name can be heard
  • Follow directions from staff and security personnel
  • Be courteous to others when taking photos or moving around the venue

Safety & Event Guidelines

The safety of students, staff, and guests is a top priority. All attendees are expected to follow event guidelines and instructions from school personnel.

 

Disruptive behavior or actions that pose a safety concern may result in removal from the event.


Additional Notes

  • In certain cases, students completing requirements during the summer may be allowed to participate in the ceremony with administrative approval

  • Participation in the ceremony does not replace the requirement to complete all graduation requirements to receive a diploma
