West Putnam Elementary School celebrated the completion of two new buildings on February 27. West Putnam now has a 1 two-story building, and another one-story building.
These buildings contain 6 new classrooms and a STEAM lab. These classrooms will also support West Putnam Elementary’s Bilingual program. The development of these buildings has been going on for some time, as plans for them started nearly 20 years ago.
The ribbon cutting was held in front of the brand new two-story building, which has a huge mural of the West Putnam mascot, an Eagle. The ribbon cutting began with 1st graders performing the poem “Yo Por Dos/Me Times Two.”.
Principal Dr. Patrisia Esponiza then took time to speak to all those in attendance on what these new buildings mean to the school. Also taking the time to speak was Porterville Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Nate Nelson and Governing Board President Lilian Durbin.
Representatives from the offices of Congressman David Valadao, Assemblyman Vince Fong, Assemblywoman Alexandra Macedo, and State Senator Shannon Grove presented West Putnam staff with certificates honoring the grand opening. Councilman A.J. Rivas, City Manager Jason Ridenour, and 5th District Tulare County Supervisor Dennis Townsend were also in attendance.
Esponiza spoke about what these buildings mean. She stated "To our parents, community members, and dignitaries who have joined us — your presence means so much. This is not just a school improvement; it is a reflection of our shared commitment to education and the success of every student who walks through these doors.
“This is an uplifting and proud moment for all of us. As we cut this ribbon, we are opening doors — doors to new opportunities, to learning, and to a brighter future for our students. Let us continue working together to support and inspire the next generation."
Porterville Chamber of Commerce CEO Kristy Martinwas also able to speak about the huge grand opening. She stated "The Porterville Chamber was honored to be part of this special milestone for West Putnam Elementary School. These new facilities are a testament to Porterville Unified School District’s commitment to providing a high-quality learning environment for students.
