Two teams from Harmony Magnet Academy placed first and second in the Southern California Gas Challenge held in conjunction with the Tulare County Office of Education.
Harmony's team of juniors Dylan Aguayo and Isabel Cross placed first, winning a $1,500 prize. Harmony's team of senior's Mary Froula and Joe Panduro and juniors Chelsea Gamboa and Lizet Corona placed second, winning a $500 prize.
Head coach for the teams is Suzanne Shearer and assistant coach is Nathan Keith.
The competition challenges students to address environmental issues within their communities. The competition serves as a platform for students to identify pressing environmental issues in their communities and propose viable solutions to address them.
Students present a project design and budge for implementation in the competition. The presentation by Aguayo and Cross was on Clean Air Solutions while Froula's, Panduro's, Gamboa's and Corona's presentation was on Organic Waste Diversion.
