Harmony Magnet Academy students Nikolas Murgia, Carlos Sartiaguin and Jared Padilla took first place last Saturday (April 1) for the 2017 Chevron Design Challenge Regional Competition in Bakersfield.
Each student received a first-place prize of a new tablet as the team will advance to the state finals on May 6 in San Diego.
The Chevron Design Challenge is a one-day competition that allows PLTW (Project Lead The Way) California students, who either are currently taking IED/ID or have taken IED/ID, to work in teams of three and put their creativity and what they learned in class to the test. They will be competing against other high school students in their local region to create an innovative item based on the design brief they are given the morning of the competition. Prizes are awarded to the top five teams in each region, and the top three teams from each region are invited to compete in the statewide competition.
