Harmony Magnet Academy nominated for 2017 National Blue Ribbon Schools award

Harmony Magnet Academy has been nominated by the California Department of Education for the 2017 National Blue Ribbon Schools award. Harmony was nominated for the Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools category and is one of 35 overall schools nominated by California.

National Blue Ribbon Schools are public and non-public elementary, middle, and high schools that are producing outstanding results for all students. They have demonstrated consistent excellence, and made progress in closing gaps in student achievement. The National Blue Ribbon Schools recognition program is part of a larger U. S. Department of Education effort to identify and disseminate knowledge about effective school leadership and promising instructional practices.

In the latest school accountability report card (2015-16), 99% of Harmony students graduated with 93% of the students enrolled in courses that are required for University of California or California State University admission. In testing results (2015-16), 91% of students scored at a proficient or advanced level (beating the state average of 59%) in English Language Arts while 59% scored at proficient or advanced in mathematics (beating the state average of 33%).

More than 7,500 schools in the United States have been recognized since the program’s inception in 1982. Winners will be announced later this fall.
