PUSD Celebrates Green Schoolyards Ribbon-Cutting at John J. Doyle Elementary

Porterville, CA · January 21, 2026

Porterville Unified School District celebrated a milestone on Wednesday with the ribbon-cutting of the Green Schoolyards Project at John J. Doyle Elementary School — the first campus in the district to receive this transformation.

The new outdoor space features learning areas, shaded pathways, and spaces designed for students to explore, play, and grow in a healthier environment. The project is especially meaningful because it was co-designed by PUSD students interning with Climate Action Pathways for Schools (CAPS), who worked alongside architects and district staff throughout the design process.

The initiative was made possible through a partnership with CAL FIRE's Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program and CAPS, reflecting the district's ongoing commitment to sustainability and student-centered learning.

PUSD is proud to see Doyle Panthers leading the way as the first school in the district to bring this vision to life.
