The contingent at the Central Section Masters Championships from Monache and Porterville High who made it to this week's State Championships could make up a jury.
Twelve wrestlers from the two schools advanced to the state event which will be held Thursday through Saturday at Bakersfield's Mechanics Bank Arena. Girls wrestling begins at 9 a.m. Thursday while boys wresting begins at noon Saturday.
The following all made it to the State Championships on Saturday at Selland Arena: Monache girls – Bailey Hoard, Sierra Alamilla, AlexAndrea Corona and Ayah Reynoso. PHS girls – Khloe Soria and Aaliyah Tapia. Monache boys – Jacob Estrada and Noel Ceballos. PHS boys – Zach Klarcyk, Andrew Gomez, Izaya Welsh and Christian Tapia. \
Leading the way were Hoard, Soria and Aaliyah Tapia who all finished second. The top 10 finishers for the boys and the top five finishers for the girls advanced to state.
With five wrestlers Monache girls also had an outstanding tournament, finishing seventh with 72 points. PHS was 10th with 61 points. Buchanan won the title with 128.5 points.
For the boys PHS was 12th with 64.5 points and Monache was 17th with 45.5 points. Buchanan was the champion with 354 points.
Hoard won her first two matches by pin at 100 pounds, then defeated Highland's Stephanie Martinez 8-5 in the finals. She lost to Buchanan's Christina Estrada in the finals.
Corona at 120 placed third winning by major decision and pin before losing in the semifinals. She came back to win by major decision to advance to the third place match and then beat Reedley's Kenzie Herrera to take third.
Alamilla at 105 won her first two matches before losing to Golden West's Kayliegh Fernandez 9-6 in the semifinals. After winning by pin to advance to the third place match she lost to Central's Megan Morales 3-0 to take fourth.
Reynoso won her first two matches by pin before losing her next two matches, falling into the fifth place match. She secured her spot for state with a 14-2 major decision win over Kerman's Marissa Velez. Also for Monache Aubrey Alejo went 1-2 at 145.
For the PHS girls Tapia won her first three matches by pin before losing to Clovis North's Braya Cruz 4-0 in the finals at 135. At 115 Soria won twice by pin and 11-0 by major decision in the semifinals before losing in the finals.
Also for PHS Ezlie Valadez went 1-2 at 105, Kaitlyn Gemmel went 0-2 at 100, Melissa Pena Guzman nearly qualified for state, going 2-2 at 120 and Neveah Baca went 1-2 at 190.
BOYS
Klarcyk placed third for Porterville's boys at 128, winning his first four matches with two wins coming by pin and one coming by major decision. After losing 5-2 to Selma's Manuel Gutierrez in the semifinals, Klarcyk came back to beat Bakersfield's Silas Varner 2-0 in the third place match.
Christian Tapia went 5-2 at 177 to take fifth. In the fifth place match he pulled out a thrilling 9-8 win over Liberty Bakersfield's Ronin Davis.
Gomez at 115 and Welsh at 152 both placed eighth. Also for PHS Bret Roberts went 1-2 at 167 and Armando Fabian went 1-2 at 192.
For Monache's boys Estrada placed fifth at 134. He advanced to the semifinals with three wins, including two by technical fall before losing his next two matches. He then won by major decision 11-2 over Frontier's Gabriel Estrada in the fifth place match.
Ceballos placed eight at 192 to advance to state. Nate Kaiser nearly made it to state at 122, losing in the blood round that would have placed him in the ninth place match and qualified him for state. He lost to Arvin's Santana Ugues 8-6.
Also for Monache Jayden Castillo went 1-2 at 287, Levi Landeros went 0-2 at 146, Luke Amaya went 1-2 at 108, Michael Wade went 1-2 at 140, Shaun Franklin went 0-2 at 217 and Tony Rodriguez went 2-2 at 128.
For Granite Hills Jonathan Dura nearly made it to state, losing in the blood round. Sergio Guadarrama also went 0-2 for the Grizzlies at 108.
Summit Collegiate High School also had two wrestlers at Masters as Michael Gonzalez at 217 and Al Romer at 140 both went 0-2. And Strathmore's Nathanial Garcia went 0-2 at 134.
